Definition:
(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Alternative history or alternate history develops out of
historiography to identify historical points of view that have been ignored, overlooked, or unseeable. It usually denotes a
history told from an alternative viewpoint, rather than from the view (actual or ascribed, obvious or inferred) of imperialists, conquerors or explorers.

The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson is an alternative history book about a world in which there is no "West". Christianity and European cultures no longer exist because 99% of the population in Europe was wiped out by the Black Death. Our Alternative History section of the Years of Rice and Salt Wiki compares aspects of the book that parallel or relate to our own history.
